| Produced and directed by youth theatre veterans George and Sandra Gray,
Orphans is the story of Treat (Creative Loafing's "Actor of the Year," Mark Sutton) and Phillip
(Danny Griffith, a Children's Theatre veteran in his first major adult role), brothers
abandoned in childhood, surviving on their own. Treat is the provider, a street thief,
dead end kid, needing no one; Phillip is closed away in the closet, afraid, the ultimate
example of latch-key childhood. Into this dysfunction appears an aging mobster on
the lam (radio personality James K. Flynn), an orphan from another time, to offer the
boys "an encouraging squeeze." Music by LEFTY. The play features original live music by Peter Gray, guitarist and songwriter for the crossover rock band, LEFTY, and is followed by a full concert set by the band, playing songs from their new "Rhythm Runs Deep" tape. Tremont Music Hall, the popular new concert club where Orphans will be staged, is also serving as the unofficial home of the Studio, providing space for other activities as well. |
